Mees Met Tower

A picture of the tower.

The instruments mounted on our 10 meter tower are intended for general atmospheric data gathering with an emphasis on fast response.  Data is recorded at ten minute mean and standard deviation for all parameters.  Maximum and minimum value within each period is recorded for wind sensors as well.

INSTRUMENTS

Met One Instruments #WS201 Wind System; #062 thermister in 076B fan-aspirated sun shield housing; #096 silicon pyranometer; #083C RH sensor (mounted in sun shield)
R.M. Youngs #27106 propeler anemometer; #61002 Gill pressure-balancing port
NovaLynx #230-700 pressure sensor
Climatronics 100508 6" tipping bucket (.01" resolution)

The data is recorded on a Campbell Scientific CS21X datalogger, which provides signal processing and storage.  The data is transferred into a 286 PC, then written to a network disk.  A real- time display is also available for observatory operations.  At 10 minute intervals the ASCII data file is automatically converted into HTML using a PERL script, updating the page and any active links.  Once a day, at 0000UT (14:00 Hawaii Time) the current file is archived and a 24 hour summary is generated.
